  11. While I do not use Trumpet, I have tested Oracle SQL*Net v1.1.7.7B
  12. over several other WinSock v1.1 implementations.  I think that Oracle
  13. only lists as "supported" WinSock implementations, those they have
  14. actually tested with...safe policy for all concerned.

  19. In the WinSock environments that I have used Oracle SQL*Net, it works
  20. like a champ...MAJOR savings in terms of installation hassle, start-up
  21. hassle, and run-time overhead.  Many fewer "moving parts" and I really
  22. like that.

  24. I believe that Oracle bases at least part of the comm core of SQL*Net
  25. on JSB's VSL code...seems to provide a high-performance, robust, and
  26. flexible base.

  28. BTW, we're also implementing our client/server network management
  29. applications using ODBC, in addition to WinSock and WinSNMP, and
  30. I must say that I am greatly impressed with how well Oracle is
  31. playing in this wide open arena.  I hope they continue this particular
  32. line of development on the desktop products.
